A good book I'm reading:
"Bleachers" by John Grisham
I didn't know what to expect from this book because it was oe of Grisham's earlier work and not his usual storyline. However, I was not disappointed in this story about high-school football players and their love-hate relationship with the coach . Although it is not an "action-packed" thriller, it is a great character study and offers insight to the world of athletics and a lot of "macho guy stuf!" I would encourage athletes and coaches, both male and female, to read the story with one word of warning, some of the language is a little stong so make so you can handle it (or have permission!). I wouldn't say this was the best book I have ever read, but it was easy to read and not exremely long.
the due date. You should expect at least one in-depth assignment per semester in each of the 2 classes outlined below where some work at home will be required. When possible, class-time will be devoted to our assignments so, if we use this time wisely, homework can be kept at a minimum! That’s up to you!
Generally speaking, students will be graded on: class participation (10 possible points per day / per subject), binders, tests and quizzes, writing assignments, worksheets and journals. You should also expect one in-depth assignment or report each semester that will require time in the computer lab, the library and work at home. Progress reports are sent home several times throughout the year so you can track progress and complete missing assignments prior to the end of each quarter. However, the best way for you to monitor your student’s progress is to utilize the Parent Portal: a direct link from your computer, to our Infinite Campus grading system. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, I will update grades each Thursday so you can stay current on assignments and encourage your student to “re-do” an assignment as outlined on the attached handout.
This is my third production of “6th grade at Calhan” and I will once again be teaching 6th grade Language Arts and Social Studies along with Middle School Newspaper/Yearbook. I have a Masters Degree in Secondary Education and a Bachelors Degree in Electronic Media. I call Oklahoma City “home” but am proud to live and work in Calhan. My husband teaches, coaches and is the Athletic Director at Miami-Yoder and my daughter is in 10th grade here at Calhan. My teaching experience includes High School and Middle School Language Arts and Social Studies, Advanced Placement Literature, Accounting, Middle School Computer Applications, and Newspaper / Yearbook.
My philosophy is to never use homework for any other purpose than to practice a new skill or check for understanding! Luckily our block schedule allows for extended class time where the majority of our assignments will be done. That way, students can take advantage of peer groups and other resources (ME!). Also with our block schedule, students have 2 nights to complete any homework. This is not to encourage procrastination but, to allow time for asking questions or This is not to encourage procrastination but, to allow time for asking questions or getting help before
