Calhan Elementary School
Greetings from Mrs. Linda Miller, Preschool - 8th Grade Principal
Deputy Don Roycraft reading to our elementary students.
SCIENCE EXPERTS....Mrs. Cookson's first graders are becoming planet experts. They are working on gaining information about each planet and then creating a booklet. This project is part of her technology unit plan from the Intel-Teach to the Future class in which she is enrolled. Essentials-Version 10 Be sure and ask any of her first graders about their planet. Check out Mrs. Cookson's page to find out more about her scientists.
Teacher/Class Selection for 2008/09
The Calhan Elementary staff will be creating class lists for the 2008-09 school year. We work hard to be completely fair and unbiased in the selection of which teacher your child will have this next fall. Things we consider: equal gender split, equal abilities split, friendships, and personalities. We will continue to do our best in making certain the fit is right! All decisions will be made by the elementary staff with each and every child’s best interest at heart!
Playground Update As you may have noticed, the turf field is officially open! We received our Certificate of Occupancy last month and our students are now allowed to run and play on this incredible green surface! Now that the playground and retaining wall are complete, the district administration, the transportation department, and the Town of Calhan will be looking at ways to make certain that the streets and parking areas around the school are as safe as possible for our children. We will be sending home updates related to parking, student drop-off, etc. in the May Chalk Talk.
Destination Imagination Calhan Elementary was well represented at the Pikes Peak Regional Tournament for Destination Imagination! Our two “Rising Stars” teams had great performances and did an exceptional job on their instant challenges. The Imagineers were awesome! They were selected over all other elementary teams competing in the tournament (approx. 50 teams) for a scholarship award! The criteria for this award was outstanding teamwork, extraordinary effort, achievement, and providing something memorable. Each team member was awarded a $50 scholarship with College Invest. In addition, the team place 3rd overall in their challenges! Congratulations to all of CES Destination Imagination participants! A big THANK YOU to all of the coaches, parents, and teachers for supporting this phenomenal educational program.
